Ten individuals found guilty of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A circulating false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's gender.
Their complaint contends that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The two married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
